Be Told ##### Are
YOU Becoming A Boiled Frog in 2010?
At
one time the normal high school biology curriculum in the USA included an
experiment in which a live frog was placed into boiling hot water.
The frog—either male or female, it made no difference as to
gender—had enough sense to jump out of the horrible situation it found
itself in.
The other half of that
experiment went like this: A
live frog was placed into a pot of cool water where it remained very calm
while probably enjoying him- or herself.
However, unbeknown to the dear little creature, the pot was placed
on a heat burner and the heat was turned up ever so slowly and
incrementally until the frog was boiled to death without any indication
that he or she was being killed. “Wow!”
you’re probably saying to yourself; how cruel, or they didn’t know
better back then and that’s why that science experiment is no longer
included in our school curricula.
In reality what the boiled frog was experiencing was what in
psychology is termed “sensory adaptation.”
The poor frog didn’t realize what was going on and was adapting
to hotter and hotter water until the water became so hot that it could not
get out and succumbed. So
what’s the analogy here? Simply this:
To a citizen of the United States around fifty years of age, it’s
quite apparent that the
USA, (1) “ain’t” what it used to be; (2) doesn’t measure up for
what it claims either on home shores, e.g., constitutional rights don’t
matter anymore, or globally, i.e., we’re not perceived as being the
world’s best friend; (3) seems to be pandering to strange ideas of a one
world government system that abides by international treaties that
supercede the U.S. Constitution; and (4) has, in some ways, become an
aggressor nation, as President Barach Obama apparently claimed in his
pre-presidential candidacy days. If
media reports are correct, didn’t Mr. Obama say, "It's
my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of
acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we, as a Nation of
warring people, conduct ourselves like the nations of Islam, where peace
prevails, perhaps a state or period of mutual accord could exist between
our governments.”
Now how does the above relate to the boiled frog?
Well, for one thing, let’s consider all the tadpoles (younger
generations) swimming around. People
under thirty years of age haven’t had enough life experience to
understand how important issues truly are.
They never had to fight against an Adolph Hitler’s quest for
establishing an Aryan race that sent millions to gas chambers and
precipitated World War II. They
never had to rebuild atom-bombed cities as the older Japanese generation
did. They never had
frightening nightmares about Joseph Stalin taking them off to a frigid
Siberian gulag. Italian and
former Yugoslavian European tadpoles dealt with blatant fascism that was
so repressive, the Italians finally rebelled and hanged Mussolini’s body
upside down at a gas station.
What happened in fascist Italy for those who don’t read history
books is this:
Benito Mussolini was the 40th Prime Minister of Italy and a
founder of Italian fascism. However,
his involvement in WWII didn’t fare out so well. Mussolini’s
attempted escape to Switzerland resulted in a quick capture and was summarily
executed near Lake
Como by Italian
partisans. His body was then taken to Milan
where it was hung upside down at a petrol station for public viewing and
to provide confirmation of his demise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benito_Mussolini
The frogs had enough of the heat being jacked up; rebelled; and
not only jumped out of the pot, but took back their country.
In Yugoslavia, tadpoles and frogs had to deal with Josip Broz Tito
who was the chief architect of the "second
Yugoslavia," a socialist federation that lasted
from World War II until 1991. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josip_Broz_Tito
Strife in the former Yugoslavia was so intolerable between ethnic
groups, that an eventual civil war erupted and that country ultimately was
broken up into several new countries: Slovenia,
Croatia,
Bosnia
and Herzegovina, Macedonia,
Montenegro,
Serbia, and two autonomous provinces within Serbia: Kosovo and Vojvodina.
Boy, did those tadpoles grow up and jump out of the pot!
The point in all this is that eventually people (frogs in our
analogy) do feel the heat and want change.
The type of change they get usually is what they feel they can live
with; how dramatic it will be; and how difficult the oppression becomes
before they jump out of the pot and take action.
However, for young tadpoles who don’t have life experience,
change may seem like “cool” water while, in reality, the pot is
heating up.
That’s the message here: The pot IS heating up and the temperature
change is not being noticed by all.
When heat is turned up, very few people like it, either in weather,
life, or governance. Currently in the United States too many frogs feel
the water temperature is becoming intolerable and want change. The change they thought they were getting in 2008 is not what
they ultimately got, so now a majority of the tadpoles and frogs are
feeling the heat and don’t like it.
Here’s proof: According
to Gallup Daily: Obama Job Approval, in February 2009, only ten
(10) percent of U.S. citizens disapproved of the president; whereas
on June 29, 2010, a whopping forty-four (44) percent felt “heat.”
Conversely, Obama’s Gallup approval readings went from a
high of seventy (70) percent in February 2009, to forty-nine (49) percent
on June 29, 2010. http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/gallup-daily-obama-job-approval.aspx
In
the March 13, 2009 issue of The Wall Street Journal, we read the
online headline “Obama's
Poll Numbers Are Falling to Earth.” http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123690358175013837.html
Less than three months after Mr. Obama’s inaugration, people were
beginning to get concerns about increased taxes and rampant government
spending. The pot began its
temperature rise and the frogs were noticing.
But it was too late! They
should have taken notice before the pot was put on the heat, i.e., during
the presidential election campaign process.
One key “temperature” issue, perhaps, was the way the
Democratic National Committee probably skewed its nominee slate by not
allowing delegates to be appointed for Florida and Michigan until very
late, and then disproportionately. Democratic
frogs should have been hoppin’ mad!
The Republicans were no better, since stories leaked how their two
candidates were fighting between themselves and one, perhaps, having
dreams of becoming a headliner movie star.
Republican frogs may have been duped!
So what does all this boil down to?
Vigilance, eternal vigilance!
Like frogs in a pot of water, people—voters and consumers—must
become involved in educating themselves about issues and not relying on
the pablum that comes from the media.
The media just may be a part of the problem:
It, too, is controlled! If
media frogs, e.g., newspapers, reporters, TV networks, etc., don’t
conform to directives rather than the public’s right to know, the heat
gets turned up on their pots. We
need to realize that if we want to maintain what we think is a free USA,
then we have to demand better: Either better pots, better water,
better aware frogs and tadpoles—or all of the above.
Ribbit! ~~~~~ I always believe that ultimately, if people are paying attention, then we get good government and good leadership. And when we get lazy, as a democracy and civically start taking shortcuts, then it results in bad government and politics. BARACK OBAMA, MSNBC interview, Sep. 25, 2009 That's
right, Mr. President, and YOU said it! We're paying attention.
